There's usually at lest one moment in every episode that is potentially life threatening in the depth of laughter that will ensue. This is very different than American humor. I've loved every episode through 5, though to be perfectly honest here and there I found myself wishing for more techie jokes, but i guess they can't chase away the non-techies just yet. They play off of each other fantastically. But the real genius of such great writing and comedic delivery on the part of the cast is magnificent. The show was the third successful sitcom creation of Graham Linehan, following Father Ted and Black Books. This is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen - no exaggeration.
I don't understand the people that don't find this funny. No idea how Chris Morris got roped into such a show - his name on the credits usually gives a seal of approval- brass eye, on the hour, the day today, Nathan Barley- not in this instance! That it ends after only 25 episodes. And it's one of those shows where you don't have some bad episodes - every one is funny. They are visited from time to time by the company recluse that is housed in a back room of their department. Just wish there were more episodes.
As we all know - a reboot will fix about anything! The first thing I noticed watching this series was director Ben Fuller's patience. Personally I think the second season is the best. And all the other seasons, of course. They are managed by a woman who knows absolutely nothing about computers, but pretended to so she could get the job. Finally, the company is owned by a person who knows nothing about running a business, yet manages to keep things afloat. Big laughs for me every single episode.
The second episode was almost redemption to the first as the cast and Graham Linehan ultimately revealed their true performance. When the first episode ended, everyone was disappointed due to the lack of good jokes. Although a fifth series was commissioned, Graham Linehan announced in 2011 that there would not be a fifth series, but a special episode. Plug in for Version 2. What's the worst part of this show? The humor isn't always drinking or sex related. The voice, the look, his whole line of thinking. Chris O'Dowd is great as Roy and although he provides many of the 'stock comedy moments' this is mixed with new material and isn't detrimental to the overall piece. Jokes could be guessed 5 minutes before they were told, shockingly predictable as they were. I will not worry because I have my own copies! Watch it and you will be hooked! Each actor emits a brave willingness to take their characters to extremes for a laugh.
The characters are well developed, the humour is dry and witty and the cast is amazing. Filmed in 2013, the final feature length episode aired on the 27 September 2013. You do not have to be a computer nerd to laugh until your sides hurt. The cast is wonderful and it made me laugh and cackle in a way that I haven't too often. I've been physically in pain due to the laughing. It was so funny, you must admire the emergency services scene! Linehan has a good eye for great actors and actresses, and that his writing skills have not waned with time.
In this second hilarious season of the award-winning hit, bitter slacker Roy Chris O'Dowd , über-nerd Moss Richard Ayoade , and technically clueless Jen Katherine Parkinson attend a night of theater, befriend a German cannibal, disrupt their boss' funeral, throw a dinner party, design the ultimate bra, and commit further acts of personal and professional irresponsibility. He has a willingness to let a joke build that evades most television directors. Something for them to put behind them!! Can't wait to see series 2. His job is never really explained, he's just there. It looks like the old pc game Lemmings. There are real gems in here as well as some stuff we've seen before. Perhaps amusing for the mainstream audience who like the same joke told over and over again I.
However, having any exposure to life inside a company of any modest size will certainly make you appreciate what goes on at this company. This time, he's dealing with technology. While their colleagues work in fantastic surroundings, Jen, Roy and Moss must work below ground in the dark and horrible basement, struggling to make it into normal society. There are so many nuances that you have to pay special attention or you'll miss them, which is difficult to do when you are busting your gut laughing with tears pouring down your face. And yes, there are extras with every season.
Happily, all the other characters are top notch too. Not quite in the same calibre as Father Ted or The Office, but still has the potential to be a cult series. I recommend checking this show out! Very very refreshing and laugh outloud show. This series is so good. Expertly performed and brilliantly written this is the funniest show I have seen for as long as I can remember. Moss is a great character and definitely suits the program well as his witty funny lines fits everywhere they are mentioned! It just adds to the whole geeky feeling of the show.
Definitely a poor sit com, nothing original about it in the slightest. The first episode did come across slightly weak and predictable, but by the second episode I was hooked, and really do think it will only get better. Each person's quirks come out in new and surprising ways; the episodes all seem fresh and not rehashed at all. After seeing the first trailer with the guys running away from the office party, it got me to check out the website.
